CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) and NCERT (National Council for Educational Research and Training) have launched ‘Tamanna’ under the flagship of Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India.
Tamanna; what it’s all about
“Tamanna” is an acronym made from the words Try and Measure Aptitude and Natural Abilities. And the official websites of CBSE and NCERT describes it as “An Aptitude Test for Senior School Students to enable stakeholders to know the aptitude of students of classes IX and X”.
It is formulated to help students of Class 9 and 10 discover their choice of subjects, and ultimately helping them to make an informed decision during the selection of subjects in Class 11 and 12.
Hence it can be concluded that “Tamanna” A.K.A Know your aptitude exam (KYA exam) will assess the weaknesses and strengths of students in academics.
Tamanna Registration Process
The circular published by the CBSE clears that the registration process for KYA (Know your aptitude) will start from 29th of January 2020 via its official website – cbse.nic.in
The students can use the school’s log-in id to appear for the Tamanna on any working day (except for gazette holidays).
On the official websites of CBSE and NCERT, there is “Technical Manual for Tamanna” which describes the following factors:-
- The Details about the use of aptitude test
- Dimensions measured in the test
- Construction and standardization of the test
- Technical Information on the Aptitude Test
- Administration
- Scoring and Norms
- Understanding the meaning of aptitude test scores
CBSE already conducted piloting of the test involving 17,000 students from Class 9th and 10th through its affiliated schools located across the country.
All the concerned students and their parents must note that, although Tamanna is developed to assess the weaknesses and strengths of students in academics and their aptitude, there is no pass or fail in this KYA test.
The official website highlights that interested students can take Tamanna voluntarily. But it must not be used or made as a basis to impose any subject, courses of study and/or vocations etc. on the students. Rather students are free to take such decisions.
