JEE Advanced is the exam considered as the latter stage of JEE Main. These two are the main engineering entrance exams in India through which admissions in the majority of engineering colleges are drawn. NTA conducts the JEE Main and its score is used in approximately all the engineering colleges to provide admissions, apart from the IITs. Whereas, one of the seven zonal IITs conducts JEE Advanced on a rotatory basis, mainly to select students and grant admission for the courses offered in all 23 IITs.
Now when we look at the JEE Advanced examination specifically, we find that over two lakh aspirants appear for the exam every year across the country. This immense competition makes it very tough for the students to crack it. Additionally, it is also true that only a couple of thousand students would be able to make it through. The first option that you can consider after receiving your below-expectation score, is a year drop to again prepare for the exam. However, according to the experts and renowned JEE Advanced mentors, a year drop should be considered only in certain scenarios. Otherwise, it would be treated as putting one important year of your career on stake. Firstly, you should look at whether you can bear the expense of an additional one-year preparation or not. There are also some colleges which include private engineering institutions some of which are renowned colleges having their own entrance examinations, like BITSAT, VITEEE, and others that you can consider appearing for. After you get to know your ranking, you would be able to locate the type of college and branch you will get after counseling. Hence, you should keep looking for other options and should not wait for counseling sessions to get over. As if you will wait for the counseling to end, then you would be forced to take a drop or else compromise with the branch of your choice.
