Common Mistakes to Avoid While Preparing for JEE

Every year lakhs of students take up a desire to become an IITian and prepares for it, whereas only a few thousand students make through it and are selected to get admission into one of the IIT colleges. It’s interesting to know that, although the majority of students fills up the application forms and appear for the JEE, they never become part of actual competition, they just remain the masses.

From spending a huge amount of money on IIT Coaching and other educational resources, to spending lots of study hours cramming and studying. Although they put their effort in preparation for JEE, they remain unaccomplished. It’s as if someone is pushing the wall and wasting their energy, getting exhausted while accomplishing nothing at the end of the day.

And if you look for the possible reasons, you might find that the majority of JEE aspirants take up the wrong approach. Also, most of the students don’t seek study methods or strategy best suitable to them, instead, resort to what others are doing.

The problem doesn’t lie in their effort but surely in their method. Therefore, here in this post, we tend to mention the mistakes to be avoided while preparing for JEE.

Don’t rely on the rote learning

Simply mugging up the concepts of JEE syllabus will not serve the purpose especially while solving the different formats of the actual JEE Examination. You must not resort to rote learning as you will forget them very soon. In case you find any concept to be hard to understand, you must seek doubt removal sessions form the teachers of JEE coaching or the school where you are enrolled.

Yes, rote learning may seem to work in shorter duration, but you will certainly forget the concepts that you don’t understand and those which are not clear to you.

Don’t skip the syllabus of Class XI

If you are studying in class 11th and preparing for JEE along with your board exams then you must not skip the syllabus of class 11. As the JEE question paper includes more than half of its question form the prescribed syllabus of 11th class, unlike the board exams where a student is tested only from the class 12th syllabus.

Don’t ignore your class 12th board exams

If you aspire to get into one of the IITs, then you must focus on your board exams to secure the needed percentage. You must keep in mind that although ranking in JEE Main gives no weightage to the 12th board examination marks. However, you need to score at least 75% marks for general and 65% for the students of reserved category, in order to qualify for admission to the IITs.

Pay attention to all the topics according to the marks distribution

If you aspire to become an IITian, then always remember that you need to study in a way that enables you to crack JEE in a limited period of time. You don’t remain diving deeper into few portions of the syllabus or into any subject of your interest. Always keep in mind that here in this phase of study you don’t have to do the research and also that any particular segment of your interest will not fetch you the required cutoff marks.

After mentioning above the importance of studying according to the marks distribution of JEE, you must know an important factor that unbalances your preparation.

Don’t shackle up yourself in too many books

Have you ever wondered that what is it that makes you stick to any portion or subject of JEE, longer than the needed time?

Well, it’s the act of referring to too many books. You happen to pile up multiple books of the same topic or subjects’, referring to which consumes more time. Additionally, referring to the multiple books will only create tons of confusion and you will find it hard to finish the syllabus on time. Therefore, along with the NCERT books, you must carefully select only a few best books to help you crack JEE.
