Common mistakes you do while preparing

Sometimes you must have wondered why you don’t score more in competitive pre-college entrance exams like NEET, AIIMS, JEE Main or JEE Advanced and fetch good results, while few students just glide smoothly through it.

Well, primarily this thought is subjective. An outlook to it depends upon varied factors like, whether you are studying just to score more as needed in the realm of competition, or you are diving deeper for the knowledge.

Don’t miss the soul of class

In highly theoretical classes of NEET or AIIMS, JEE Main and JEE Advanced Coaching, you tend to write down everything in your notebook since you don’t want to miss any key sentence that will prove important in exams.

But it goes another way around, as when you are in a quest of getting every single word on the paper, your mind focuses on the agility of your hands rather than the words that are being spoken by the lecturer/teacher.

Hence, during the lecture, you should reflect on the subject matter of the syllabus of these competitive exams like NEET or AIIMS, JEE Main and JEE Advanced, and pen down only the key points. Listening to your professor’s speech engraves information in your brain since you are much more concentrated on learning in a constructive way rather than just hoarding words into your notebook.

Some mentors and educators suggest that any topic or subject of NEET or AIIMS, JEE Main and JEE Advanced should be approached in the following format:-

  1. Prior to the actual NEET or JEE preparatory lecture, go through the topic/chapter scheduled to be taught in the next class.
  2. Attend the lecture and try to balance yourself through the speech of professor/teacher and notes taking.
  3. Again go through the topic/chapter and try to sum-up the whole concept.

These three steps will let you grasp the key concepts of the topic/chapter being taught, and will help you to get your doubts and queries get cleared.

Don’t just read instead of studying

Studying and reading may seem to be the inclusive terms, but at times the derived sense can be exclusive. For example, while reading a novel you don’t tend to study it. Your eyes just glide through the pages and you read it and not study it.

It often happens that when you read a book or study material of NEET, AIIMS, JEE Main and JEE Advanced you probably don’t remember every single plot point when you reach the end. This is fine when you are reading for fun, but it’s not ok when you are trying to nail these competitive entrance exams.

In order to study it, you need to lower your reading speed and don’t skip any page.  If you didn’t understand the previous one, read it word by word and consult a dictionary if need.  If you encounter any doubts while studying then note it down for further clarification and try to make the most out of every single paragraph of your book or notes.

Although the aforementioned tips are applicable for every student in general, you may craft your own hacks, tips, and tricks and avoid these common mistakes.
