How to Solve Physics Numerical

In short and crisp note we can define Physics as extended mathematics, i.e. we can assert it as “physics is extended mathematics”. In mathematics, we have direct questions where we need to solve the given equation to further derive the answer.

Whereas in physics, you are needed to make the equation first or say we need to convert the language of the question in the form of equations first, by using the Fundamentals of Physics, laws of Physics and the data given in the question.

Further, these equations are solved through the application of simple mathematics, basic Calculus and a bit of vector. But the main hurdle happens in the driving those expressions, statement and the data of the question in the equation format.

Hence hereby, we are describing the steps and processes to derive equations and solved in four simple steps, as suggested by Mr. Pramod Maheshwari an IITian, physics scholar and teacher.

Mr. Pramod Maheshwari asserts that when he started teaching in 1993, he found that the students were unable to solve the problems in physics. He deduced the Physics Numerical solving approach after deeply analyzing the factors that enabled him to solve the questions with ease while it seemed like a hurdle for the students.

If solving the physics numerical is quite confusing to you despite your good theoretical knowledge. Or if you get confused while choosing the right formula to be applied in the physics numerical than this piece of information is for you.

Step 1- Define the Problem

This step is used to structure the thought process that plays in the conscious of the student in a step by step manner. At first, it may seem to be a theoretical approach but after due course of time and with lots of practice you will be able to do it.

  • Read the questions thoroughly

If you don’t read the questions thoroughly then you will not be able to infer the given question in the right way.

  • Try to represent the situation using a diagram either on paper or in mind. It is a very important step.

If you can make the sketch then it means that you understood the problem or say the given question, and also that you inferred the question very well.

  • Carefully note the units of the given quantities inside the question.

Always try to maintain the uniformity in the given data, according to a single unit of the given measurement system like that of SI or MKS and FPS etc.

  • Unnecessary incorrect information may distract you.

The question contains these distractions intentionally to test your awareness and competitiveness.

  • Decide what needs to be determined

Most of the students get confused at inferring what the question is demanding you to find as its answer.

Step 2- Think About it and Plan Your Approach.

Well, planning your approach requires you to question yourself that:-

  • Do you have enough information (that is provided in the question)?
  • Have you ever solved similar questions earlier?

Once you conclude these aforesaid questions you need to follow the further steps to Solve Physics Numerical.

  • Break the problem into meaningful pieces

Sometimes the question happens to be of two to three steps, where the information is given and the factors need to be found don’t interconnect directly.

  • Decide where to start and what sequence to follow to reach the solution.

As mentioned in the above point, to solve physics numerical you need to decide where to start solving and what sequence to follow to reach the solution of the given problem.

Step 3- Carry Out Your Plan

Execute and don’t lose your confidence in your plan. It generally happens that once you start to solve the question, you doubt your approach and leave the question in the midway without getting it completed.

Step 4- Look back and evaluate

In this last and fourth step, you must look back and evaluate the process you executed to Solve Physics Numerical.

  • In case your first plan does not succeed think about the alternate plan.

While solving any given physics numerical, if your first plan doesn’t seem to succeed then you need to move ahead and think about the alternate plan.

  • Check for math error, correct signs, proper units etc.

Once you get your answer, you should proceed to cross-check it for the expected errors in the mathematical calculations, correct mathematical signs, proper unit usage etc.

  • Check whether your answer is reasonable.

If your answer doesn’t match with the given options then you ought to look for the data that you are getting, which may seem to be unreasonable.

  • Does it agree with your intuition?

And at last, you must look at whether the solution agrees with your intuition or not. It’s something that you feel the way your answer should yield out, the way you expect your answer to be.

Furthermore, you should watch and refer to the video mentioned below where you will find Mr. Pramod Maheshwari solving a few questions by utilizing these four steps.

These questions are taken from initial chapters of class 11th after considering the fact that all the students will comprehend and connect to it. Be they the student of class 11th, 12th or 12th pass.
