The examination date of JEE Advanced 2020 is finally out and it will be held on the 17th of May, 2020. In the upcoming year, IIT Delhi will organize this entrance exam.

As you must be aware, that NTA (National Testing Agency) conducts JEE Main. Whereas, every year one of the IITs organizes the “JEE Advanced exam” under the aegis of IIT JAB (IIT Joint Admission Board) to draw admission to 23 IITs.

IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) Decisions

On 15th September 2019, the IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) took several decisions, which we have mentioned in this article.

The following are the concluded points from the words of Professor V Ramgopal Rao, (Director of IIT Delhi) regarding the decisions taken by the IIT JAB.

Some off-shore test centers came-up to encourage cultural diversity on the campuses of IITs. As of last year, JEE Advanced Exam was organized in five countries across the globe, and the USA gets added to the list this time.

JEE Advanced Centers in Foreign Lands

Last year in 2019, few offshore centers were also set up in addition to the Indian JEE Advanced centers. These overseas JEE Advanced Centers were:-

  • Dubai in the UAE
  • Dhaka in Bangladesh
  • Addis Ababa in Ethiopia
  • Kathmandu in Nepal
  • Singapore
  • Colombo in Sri Lanka

Although, due to the absence of candidates at the centers of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia and Colombo in Sri Lanka, the IIT JAB will discontinue the exam centers in these cities for the upcoming JEE Advanced 2020.

Shortlisted Candidates to Appear in JEE Advanced Exam Increased

This time, another positive change is introduced in JEE Advanced 2020, i.e. the number of shortlisted candidates to appear in the JEE Advanced exam is increased.

Previously, a total of top 2,40,000 JEE main test takers were announced as eligible to appear in the JEE Advanced exam. While from 2020, Ten thousand more students will get shortlisted. Hence, a total of topmost 2,50,000 students from all categories who will appear in JEE Main 2020, will get shortlisted to appear in the JEE Advanced exam 2020.

Change in the Timing of JEE Advanced Second Paper

Earlier, Paper 2 of JEE Advanced used to start at 2 p.m whereas, now it will start at 2:30 pm.

This change in the timing of JEE Advanced second paper is made to give students more transition time between the two papers. Especially, it will help the PwD (Person with Disabilities) candidates.

This will allow more time to conduct biometric verification at the JEE Advanced centers. Hence, you can conclude that the first paper of JEE Advanced scheduled on May 17, 2020, will start from 9.00 a.m. to 12 pm according to the Indian Standard Time. While the second paper will commence from 2.30 p.m. till 5.30 p.m. according to the Indian Standard Time.
