It’s very obvious that after the completion of class 10th board exams students start being inquisitive and dive deeper into the internet. These students are often seen searching for the list of competitive exams that can be pursued after passing class 10th Boards as they need to choose a stream for their 10+2 studies.
Additionally, in concurrent India, they need to prepare for competitive entrance examinations for further higher studies. As it has become a matter of past that the institutions of higher studies in India, used to draw their admissions only on the basis of marks achieved in School Board Examinations.
Now there are many streams like science, commerce, humanities etc. and these streams further divides up and end into specializations. Among them, science has diverse streams, leading to different career scope. Hence under the science segment, we are presenting below a list of competitive exams that can be pursued after passing class 10th Board examinations.
JEE Main
It is an exam conducted at the prime level of the JEE (Joint Entrance Exam), organized pan India for engineering courses offered at, NITs, IISERs, and IIITs.
It also serves as the qualifying examination for the JEE Advanced examination. From 2019 onwards, the Department of Higher Education under the MHRD, of India has entrusted the responsibility of conducting JEE (Main) to the NTA.
JEE Advanced
An entrance examination for engineering courses offered at the IITs, it is conducted latter to the JEE Main. The students qualifying in JEE Main are only made eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. This second tire of Joint Entrance Examination is conducted by one of the seven IITs. These Indian Institute of Technology are IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee and take up the responsibility of conducting JEE Advanced on a rotator basis
JEE AAT (Architecture Aptitude Test)
This exam of JEE can be considered as the third one. It is also conducted by the same IITs scheduled for conducting JEE Advanced in a particular year. This serves as the gateway to the B.Arch programs only offered at two IITs, IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur.
NATA – National Aptitude Test in Architecture
NATA stands for the National Aptitude Test in Architecture, and since 2006 it is being conducted by COA. It is a separate aptitude test in Architecture conducted independently and is not combined with the tests for admissions to other streams of scientific studies like Engineering, Pharmacy, Medicine and other disciplines of STEM.
NATA serves as the Common Aptitude Test in Architecture, at the national level. Thus, it provides a single platform for appearing in the aptitude test. And help facilitate admissions to the First year of 5 year Bachelor of Architecture Degree Courses (B.Arch.) offered at all the recognized Institutions of Architecture throughout India.
National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)
NEET was previously known as AIPMT and was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education. It is a national level exam conducted by the NTA FROM 2019 onwards. It facilitates admissions to the MBBS and BDS and all other medical courses offered at all the government & private medical colleges including JIPMER and AIIMS of India.

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)
National Talent Search Examination is a national-level scholarship program, conducted by the NCERT at the level of Secondary school.
There are two levels of NTSE, one conducted at the state level (stage -1) and another at the National level (stage-2). In order to get eligible for the NTSE Stage -2 exam, a student needs to qualify for NTSE Stage-1.
Every year, 1000 scholarships are granted to the top students who qualify the NTSE Stage-2. Out of these one thousand scholarships, 750 are granted to the students belonging to the General category. And rest 250 scholarships are granted to the students of reserved category.
KYPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana)
Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana, popularly shortened and referred to as KVPY is a National Fellowship Program in Basic Sciences. It was started by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, in 1999.
KVPY was started with an aim to discover the students having an aptitude for research and aid towards utilization of their academic potential. It provides scholarships to selected students to pursue basic science courses and take up research careers in Science stream.
The duration of the various fellowships and the contingency grants provided through the KVPY is for a time period of 5 years or up to the pre PhD level whichever falls earlier. These students get an opportunity to explore summer camps organized at various research and educational institutions located in India. KVPY also provide a chance to get admissions into institutions as IISC or IISER conditioned to fulfilling the required criteria.
There are also few more National Standard Examination conducted at 12th level like, NSEJS (National Standard Examination in Junior Science), NSEP (National Standard Examination in Physics), NSEC (National Standard Examination in Chemistry), NSEB (National Standard examination in Biology), NSEA (National Standard Examination in Astronomy) and Mathematical Olympiad which we will be adding up.
