How to Help your Child Succeed in NEET

It is conceptualized in general, that it’s the student who will be putting efforts while preparing for the competitive exams like that of NEET. Whereas, there are certain roles that you must fulfill being the parents, to help your child succeed in NEET.

Competitive preparedness calls for a lot of varied efforts, creating a high level of anxiety and stress putting negative effects on your wards. Hence this is the phase wherein you need to play certain supporting roles as a parent, to help your child sail through the harsh preparatory phase.

Now if you are wondering how to help your child succeed in NEET, then go ahead and read on this brief guide.

Healthy lifestyle leading to healthy performance

You must have heard of a wise saying that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, and a healthy lifestyle maintains bodily health. Hence, a lifestyle comprising healthy habits is a must while preparing for any tough competitive exams like NEET which requires a healthy and sharp memory.

As a concerned parent, you must keep an eye over the lifestyle of your child and must put your intervention if needed. You should never let them indulge into regular late-night studies as well as other fun activities, unhealthy eating habits, dependency on high caffeinated beverages, addiction to tobacco and other intoxicants etc.

Let the goodness begin from your home, try to serve them less processed foods and prefer “live healthy food items” rich in fibre, proteins, minerals and other macro and micronutrients. It will keep them energized and more focused during their studies leading to better performance.

Help them develop a habit of planned action

Help your child develop a habit of planned action, be it study or other day-to-day activities. Encourage them to derive their self-made study plan, but don’t limit their life to studies or study-related activities only.

Let them go loose and involve themselves in playfulness and other social activities instead of becoming a book-worm.

Constantly track them but don’t micro-manage

As parents, you should also keep track of what’s going on in your child’s life outside your home, including their academics as well. Constantly track down their involvement in various assignments, their performance in the internal/practice tests they attempt before the NEET and encourage and guide them if they lack somewhere in their preparations.

Though it must not be construed to take away their freedom and choice and manage them on a micro-level. All you need to do is gauge their distractions as well as their preparation and readiness to face the actual NEET question paper.

Connect to your child

You may be a busy person but never remain submerged to your own works only, try to extract a few hours and visit the school or the NEET preparatory classes where your child is enrolled. Talk to the teachers and mentors of your child and explore their opinion about them.

Let them realize their own abilities and appreciate their efforts and award them with something useful. It will instil them with a sense of earning. Also, make them learn that failure is an integral part of success, given that they don’t make it their habit out of carelessness.

Let them open up to you and feel that you as their parent, is always there to support them, especially if they are subjected to exploitation or abuses like that of the bully or other situation.

You need to understand that the preparedness for any competitive exams be it NEET or any other, is a culmination of various factors it’s not merely limited to studies and academics. If they fail to succeed then it’s not only their failure alone, similarly, it’s your success along if they succeed.
