Aryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge: a test to promote mathematical competencies among the students of the CBSE

CBSE is conducting a mathematical Challenge named as “Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge” aimed to promote the mathematical competencies among the students through joyful assessment.

Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge is a Computer Based Test designed to let the children appreciate and encourage the application of mathematics in their daily life.

The performance of the test will yield the feedback from, and the CBSE Board will use it to guide and track the schools and children in the mathematics application in daily life. The details of the proposed test are as under:

Eligibility for the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge

The Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge will be held in two stages.

First stage

The students eligible for the first stage of the challenge are those who are the students of CBSE affiliated schools studying in class VIII-X.

Second stage

The top three students from each affiliated school that was registered for the first stage of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge.

Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge: Areas of Assessment

The Areas of Assessment for the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge is segregated into three parts. These are:-

  1. Application of Mathematics in daily life carrying 20 marks
  2. The joy of Mathematics Learning will carry 20 marks
  3. Mathematical ability carrying 20 marks

As per the circular of the CBSE, the first part of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge, i.e. Application of Mathematics in daily life (carrying 20 marks) will include:-

  1. Change and relationships
  2. Space and Shape
  3. Quantity
  4. Uncertainty and data

The second part of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge, i.e. Joy of Mathematics Learning (carrying 20 marks) will test the following components:-

  1. Puzzles
  2. History of Mathematics
  3. Current affairs in Mathematics
  4. Mathematics all around us

Mathematical ability (carrying 20 marks) will serve as the third part of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge.

  1. Numerical Ability
  2. Reasoning
  3. Spatial Ability

Test duration and total marks allotted in the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge

The duration of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge Test will be of one hour and the test paper will contain objective type questions. Total wieghtage of the test will be 60 marks whereas the test will have no negative marking.

Process for the conduction of Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge test and Selection

Process for the conduction of the First stage

Any CBSE affiliated school can apply for the first stage of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge.

The application for this test can be made through the link available on the official website of the CBSE www.cbse.nic.in on or before 15th November 2019 till 5.30 p.m.

Also, the applications can be made through this direct link of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge Test.

No fees will be charged for the first stage of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge Test.

A question paper with the answer keys will be made available to the registered schools through the online link, from 18th to 22nd November 2019.

The registered school will conduct the first stage of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge Test and identify the top three students in the test.

NOTE: – In case of the need to break the tie to consider the top three students, if more than three students get the same mark at the top level. The schools will conduct a suitable screening test on their own.

After the selection of these three students, the respective schools will register their names by paying an amount of 900 fees by logging in the official website through the online link from 18 to 25th November 2019.

The CBSE affiliated schools registered for the test can only access this link (before the last date).

Process for the conduction of the Second Stage:

The schools affiliated to the CBSE will be eligible for the second stage of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge Test that has completed the first stage of the test.

After which, the CBSE Board will conduct a computer-based test for the top three students registered from each CBSE school on November 29th,  2019.

And finally, Merit certificates will be given to the top 100 students from each CBSE region.

Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge Test Fee

No fees will be charged, for the first stage participation. However for the final stage of the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge Rs. 900/- will be charged.

The fees to be paid at the time of registration for the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge are accepted only through debit card or Credit Card or NEFT.

The students, as well as schools, must note that the Fees once will not be refunded back.

Appreciation Certificate for the Schools

As a provision to recognize the schools promoting the Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge, the board will give an appreciation certificate to 10 schools from each region that will mark the maximum number of student participation in the first stage.

All the CBSE affiliated schools should encourage their students to participate in Āryabhaṭa Ganit Challenge as it acts as an opportunity to identify and nurture Mathematical skills and potential of the students.

The students taking this test will get their participation and performance in this challenge acknowledged in their portfolio.
